Mayiga gave the advice while meeting directors and staff of Bbeg Media who paid him a courtesy visit at his office at Bulange House.

The team was led by the chief executive officer, Edris Kiggundu. It comprised Noah Kyeyune, the Editorial director, John Kibalizi, the Operations director, Christopher Semalemu, the chief video editor and Zaitune Nabakooza, a reporter.

“Report news accurately and people will start depending on you for authentic news,” Mayiga said.

He lauded the unity of the team and urged them to remain transparent amongst themselves and to the audience they serve. Mayiga said focus and planning were key in Bbeg Media’s long term journey.

“Planning is key. Always keep a diary of events and stick to your plans. Stick to your vision and always audit your goals,” Mayiga said.

Mayiga narrated to the team how together with his partner Francis Buule, started a law firm amid challenging times in March 1994. He thus told the Bbeg Media team to remain persistent.

“We did not have any money. Even the chairs and tables we started with, we bought them on credit. However after some time, we got customers and now the firm is 30 years old,” he said.

Kiggundu thanked Mayiga for sparing his time to meet with the Bbeg Media team. He enumerated the challenges the industry faces including a harsh economic environment that has led many firms to cut back on media advertising.

Bbeg Media was founded in February 2023 by seasoned journalists who had worked in broadcast and print media for more than 15 years. It is an online media platform comprising a TV and news portal.

During this time, it has gained popularity and respect for its coverage of local politics, the media industry and the education sector.
