The National Population and Housing Census will be carried out from May 10 to 19, 2024, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), has announced.
The executive director of UBOS Dr Chris Mukiza said President Museveni had agreed to declare May 10, the day the census shall commence, a public holiday.
Mukiza said UBOS had implemented a number of pre-enumeration activities in the lead up to the census.
He said they had geo=mapped households and area boundaries, they were developing digital maps and UBOS had completed identifying suppliers of tablets to be used in the census.
“The Uganda Bureau of Statistics would like to implore the media to continue publicizing the Census 2024 activities thought your various channels in order to enhance awareness and generate public support and participation,” Mukiza said.
He said some people on social media were circulating false messages about the census.
The last population census was conducted in 2014 and Uganda at that time had 33 million people. Today it is estimated that the country has 46 million people.
