Kayanja Case: Court remands mother of suspect who stood as surety for him

Mengo Court Magistrate Adams Byarugaba has remanded Prossy Namugga, the mother of a suspect, after she failed to trace the whereabouts of her son, Moses Tumwiine, also known as Semanobe.

Namugga was arrested a few days ago following a warrant issued by the same court when her son, Moses Tumwiine, missed court appearances more than four times.

Tumwiine is the sixth accused in a case involving Pastor Robert Kayanja, where nine individuals are charged with trespassing at Kayanja’s church in September 2021.
Appearing before the magistrate, Namugga explained that she has not seen her son for several months.

“Your Honour, my son has been missing for months, and I don’t know his whereabouts. I’ve tried calling all his phone numbers, but I couldn’t reach him. I’m requesting forgiveness,” she pleaded.

State prosecutor Jonathan Muwaganya argued that Namugga failed to fulfill her duties and responsibilities as a surety. He requested that, since the accused is missing, Namugga be remanded for six months or pay a fine of Shs 20 million, or both.

Magistrate Adams Byarugaba stated that he would deliver his ruling on Namugga’s bail application or remand on September 5, 2025.

In the same court session, Magistrate Byarugaba issued a warning to TikToker Olivia Katemu, whose real name is Elizabeth Nampiima, for spreading false information and disrupting the court case.

Earlier that morning, another suspect, Alex Wakamala, testified about his arrest on September 17, 2021, at Miracle Centre Cathedral. Wakamala alleged that he was sodomized by Pastor Robert Kayanja and had gone to the church to demand payment.

Wakamala, who testified under oath, is scheduled for cross-examination on September 5, 2025.
