Jolly Mugisha, National Unity Platform’s deputy president for Western Uganda is dead after a long illness. She was 61 years.

Party president Robert Kyagulanyi confirmed Mugisha’s death and said it had led to a deep void.

“Mama Jolly will always be remembered as a true Ugandan heroine. Other communication will be made in due course,” said Kyagulanyi.

Mugisha died from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she has been admitted in a coma for several weeks.

Her death is a big blow to NUP’s mobilisation efforts in Western Uganda, a region where the party has struggled to establish a big presence.

She has been active on the political scene for more than 20 years. She wasa co-founder of the Arfica Liberal Network in 2003.

The network’s mission is to support and empower political parties, organisations, networks, think tanks and individuals, to grow their support, to increase their influence on politics and implement policies of good governance when in government.
