Former KCCA executive director Dorothy Kisaka and her former deputy director David Luyimbazi have today been charged with manslaughter by the Kasangati Chief Magistrate’s Court in relation to Kiteezi landfill collapse which left 35 people dead. Also charged alongside them was Dr Daniel Okello, the former director for public health at KCCA.
The trio denied the charges.
The three were arrested on Wednesday by Police after appearing at CID for questioning. Dressed casually and looking pensive, the trio appeared incomfortable in the dock. Before the session started, Luyimbazi and Kisaka were seen smiling.
Kisaka was represented by lawyers Apollo Nelson Makubuya and Fred Muwema while Luyimbazi was represented by Bazilengede Muhammed. Okello’s lawyer was Asuman Nyonyintono.
According to the Penal Code, the offence of manslaughter attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
