Mukasa Mbidde: Uganda almost elected an “idiot” as president

Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the DP Vice President has said voters need to develop an “idiot detection system” if Uganda is to flourish as a country.

Speaking at a social function over the weekend, Mbidde said Uganda nearly elected an idiot as a president in 2021 because there is no proper vetting method for candidates.

Mbidde did not reveal who the person was but many people claimed it was a veiled reference to Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform leader who emerged second in the 2021 elections.

Many of Kyagulanyi’s critics said he was inexperienced to stand for the position.

“People are elected for the best music they have but they are elected to determine medicine in hospitals. If we are to flourish as a country we must develop an idiot detection system. We must develop a system to detect idiots because they are smarter. They can even be promoted ahead of you in a job. They can even be elected president it almost happened here. So, if we are to develop and flourish we must develop an idiot detection system,” Mbidde said amid cheers.

Mbidde and Bobi Wine are not the best of friends and the NUP leader has severally claimed that the DP leader works closely with Museveni.
