Grace Lubega, who calls himself an apostle and leads a spiritual movement called Phaneroo, has come under attack for telling his followers that some Baganda names like “Ndawula” come with a curse.
In a video that has been circulated widely, Lubega told his followers recently that people called Ndawula or Nandawula do not live long.
“When they fall sick, they die in three our four days,” he said.
In Buganda, people with the name Ndawula belong to the royal or lion clans.
However his view has sparked outrage on social media platforms with many people questioning the basis of his conclusion.
“Ignorance+confidence=Lubega,” wrote Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, questioning whether Lubega had carried out any survey or research to back his claims.
Another person by the names of Francuisco wrote: “Each and even day God reveals to us that the spirit of wisdom is far away from most of those men who call themselves pastors.”
Modercai Muliisa, a Ugandan based in the United States said people like Lubega “come up with stuff that has no foundation in truth and disseminates them to their already manipulated, desperate followers.”
Lubega has a massive following. His sermons are attended by thousands of people especially corporate females looking for respite in their relationships and workplaces.
Some of his followers were quick to defend his baseless assertions saying “non-believers” will not understand what he meant.
“Since u are not among his followers why are u bothered. what happened to freedom of speech?” wrote Brian Wekesa.
