Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has held bilateral talks with the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutiérrez at the UN headquarters in New York.
The two discussed how Uganda can further benefit from UN interventions. The meeting was closed to the media.
Nabbanja also met Prithvirajsing Roopun the president of Mauritius and discussed matters of mutual benefit for the two sister countries.
The meetings took place at the G77+China offices at the United Nations headquarters in New York at the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly.
Nabbanja said that Uganda and Mauritius share a lot in common and asked the president to allow the two sister countries have technological transfer to benefit the citizens of the two countries.
Nabbanja extended President Museveni’s warm greetings and thanked Mauritius for cordial relations with Uganda.
During the meeting, Roopun lauded Uganda for steering well NAM and G77+China with tangible results.
Roopun thanked President Yoweri Museveni for his relentless efforts in promoting Pan-Africanism and peace in Africa.
He called for a United Africa for the development of the continent that is endowed with natural resources but at the same time poor.
Nabbanja later held talks with the Regional Director for Africa of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ahunna Eziakonwa at Uganda House in New York.
Nabbanja and her guest discussed several issues including human capital development because Uganda has a young population that requires skilling.
Ahunna assured the prime minister that UNDP will continue supporting Uganda in its development agenda and pointed out that Makerere University will be supported to become an African Golden Triangle.
At all the meetings the premier was accompanied by the minister for Gender Labour and Social Development Betty Amongi; state minister for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem; Uganda’s permanent representative at the United Nations Adonia Ayebare; Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Rebecca Otengo Amuge and Dr. Albert Byamugisha, the head of the SDG secretariat in Uganda
