David Vidal Sans, a digital communications expert at the European Union Parliament has pulled down a tweet praising Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for his fight for human rights including LGBTQ rights in Uganda.
Vidal Sans posted on X at 1.07 PM on April 4 about his admiration for the Ugandan politician after the two met in Brussels, Belgium. He later took down the tweet, for unclear reasons but screenshots of it had been captured.
Here is what he wrote on X: “Honoured to meet Uganda’s most prominent leader HEBobiWine. He is not only fighting for human and LGBTI rights but also exposing the dictatorial reality of his country in the 2024 Oscar nominated documentary, Bobi Wine: The People’s President.”
Kyagulanyi is currently in Belgium where he will hold meetings with donors and attend sittings of the European Union Parliament. He is accompanied by Lewis Rubongoya, the party secretary general.
The post has created a buzz in Uganda where majority of the people remain culturally conservative.
It has also renergised Kyagulanyi’s critics who have often accused him of being a supporter of gays.
In a BBC interview last year, Kyagulanyi said the Anti-Homosexuality Law that was passed by Parliament was intended to fight him and other opposition activists. He also claimed that members of his National Unity Platform has been given money to support the law.
But he has always maintained that he respects traditional African values.
