Video: Ssenyonyi tells Mpuuga not to hide behind Buganda over Shs 500 million deal

Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has told his predecessor, Mathias Mpuuga, not to hide behind his ties with Mengo to evade accountability over the controversial Shs 500 million he received as service award from Parliament.

Speaking to journalists in Kalungu over the weekend, Ssenyonyi said: “When we get evidence we shall not keep quiet you have seen how we have handled the Hon Mathias Mpuuga matter. We got evidence and told him it is wrong and he accepted. Let us not be diverted that this is about Kabaka. Kabaka has never sent anyone to misappropriate taxpayers’ money. Let us not embarrass the Kabaka. Let us answer the questions being asked by the people of Uganda.”

Ssenyonyi was in Kalungu to attend silver jubilee celebrations for Christians at St Jude Thaddeus in Lukaya.

It is the first time that Ssenyonyi is speaking about the Mpuuga issue and it remains to be seen how this will affect their relationship.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) last week gave Mpuuga seven days to show cause why the party should not recall him as parliamentary commissioner. Mpuuga has insisted that he broke no law in accepting the service award.
