Long serving Next Media employee, Ramathan Mbago has thrown in the towel.
Impeccable sources at Naguru told us that Mbago tendered in his notice of resignation on February 19.
Mbago told us that he had decided to leave Next Media to concentrate on his private businesses.
“I have given my all to Next Media. I have worked here for over 16 years and the company has done so many good things for me. So I have no issues with anyone. In fact I will leave a very happy man. Time has come for me to do other things,” Mbago told us.
However, other sources at Naguru said he had been unhappy over some issues and that his resignation while unexpected was not totally shocking.
We have been told that Next Media shall release an official statement.
Eventful journey
A protégé of veteran Jinja politician Igeme Nabeta, Mbago was the first station manager of NBS TV at its inception in 2008. Then the station was owned by Nabeta.
In 2010, he was promoted to Chief Operations Officer and was appointed to the NBS Television board in 2013. Before that, he was the General Manager of Eastwood Media Production, which was charged with the output of local television content during the transition of Uganda Television (UTV) to Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
Mbago is the third member of the Top Management Team (TMT), the top most organ of Next Media, to leave in the last two years.
Pamela Adongo, the former general manager of Next Com left in 2022 to pursue private business while Sam Agona, the former GM of Hilcom left in November 2023 to concentrate on his graduate studies.
