A group of NRM mobilisers led by John Bukenya have said they will not support efforts to impose First Son Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi on the party.
Bukenya told Bbeg Media, moments after the Muhoozi project had been rebranded to Patriotic League of Uganda, that some of the people supporting the first son have questionable integrity.
Promoters of the First Son’s presidential bid said the change in name will give it a broader political appeal and make it less about Muhoozi and more about ideas.
“We are disappointed that some of the people who were arrested over mismanagement of funds like Capt Mike Mukula are the ones pushing for a Muhoozi presidency,” Bukenya said.
“We shall oppose all efforts to impose Muhoozi on us. Those people have eaten every thing now they are changing the goal post so that their daughters and sons also eat. We shall not support this thing.”
Bukenya is the chairperson of “Let Us Fight Illiteracy and Ignorance Association”, a pressure group that has previously mobilized for President Museveni.
He said they are still demanding payment for mobilizing for Museveni during the 2011, 2016 and 2021 campaigns.
