Two city lawyers have come out and condemned Barnabas Ndawula, a fellow advocate, for impersonating the Kabaka in a land case.
In 2019, it was discovered that Ndawula, while working as the head of the legal department at Buganda Land Board signed a consent judgment as “Kabaka” in a land case.
According to the case, a one John Mulindwa dragged Herbert Musiitwa Mulasa to court over allegations that he wanted to grab his land.
Court heard that Ndawula allegedly advised Musiitwa to drag the Kabaka to court, asking it to compel the Kabaka to issue him a leasehold title on block 273 plot 4849 which already belonged to Mulindwa.
Later under the indluence of Ndawula, a consent judgement was signed with the BLB legal boss signing as “kabaka’s representative” according to court records.
When BLB discovered the mess, Ndawula was shown the exit. He currently works at Law Development Centre (LDC).
One of the lawyers told Bbeg Media that what Ndawula had done had embarrassed the profession.
“It is a pity that someone of his status can go as far as appending his signature on a judgement purporting to be the Kabaka. This does not reflect well on us,” the lawyer said.
Another said the LDC ought to have looked critically into Ndawula’s record before employing him.
The president of Uganda Law Society Bernard Oundo said the matter had not been brought to his attention.
He promised to look into it.
