George Musisi, a lawyer from the National Unity Platform (NUP) has told Bbeg Media he prefers to stand in Mukono Municipality not Kira in the 2026 elections.
He told us in an interview that there are those within the party who had mooted the idea that he stands in Kira Municipality where he resides but he thought he stood better chances of success in Mukono Municipality where he hails from.
“I am a born of Mukono and I have spent time doing mobilisation work there. It is my home,” he said.
Sources have told us that party leaders led by Robert Kyagulanyi had been nudging Musisi to stand in Kira to avert a possible clash with the incumbent Betty Nambooze who also belongs to NUP.
Nambooze has represented the constituency since 2010 and there are indications that she intends to stand again in 2026. However, there are those who believe she needs to handover the baton to Musisi who is equally eloquent.
Musisi said he was confident he could win in Kira Municipality where he is head of the laity in Anglican Church and is active in the Rotary Club.
If he were to stand in Kira, Musisi would have to face off with Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda a very strong and popular politician.
While some say the chances of Musisi defeating Ssemujju would be slim, there is no doubt that he would be the most formidable politician the former FDC spokesperson has faced since he entered elective politics in 2011.
