The Democratic Party has said that they were not formally invited for the launch of the alternative budget by the National Unity Platform (NUP), which does not bode well for opposition unity.
The launch took place on April 8 at Parliament.
Ismael Kiirya, the DP Spokesperson said this signifies that NUP is not concerned about opposition unity.
“Opposition doesn’t belong to one political party alone as NUP. I understand you launched the budget but you didn’t inform us as a party,” he said.
He said under the tenure of Mathias Mpuuga as leader of opposition, they used to be formally invited for such activities.
“I know your a new party but try to copy from the old regimes,” he said.
On the issue of traders strike over the EFRIS invoicing system and high taxes, Kiirya advised Uganda Revenue Authority to sensitise traders and listen to their concerns.
“There’s no way you will survive as URA without these traders. Go to the ground and help them ” he said adding that many traders were semi-illeterate.
