DF’s Robert Mukiibi goes after Kawalya in Lubaga North

The Democratic Front (DF) has nominated Robert Mukiibi to contest as MP for Lubaga North in the upcoming 2026 elections.

Mukiibi, a career teacher and banker with over 20 years of proven credibility at Centenary Bank, shared his vision with Bbeg Media at DF headquarters on Namirembe Hill in Kampala.

“I am honoured to inform the people of Lubaga North that your MP has arrived to represent you and address your service delivery challenges through effective representation, budgeting, and oversight,” Mukiibi said.

He highlighted how his banking experience has equipped him to understand the financial struggles faced by many business owners due to limited government interventions.

Mukiibi promised to leverage his position as MP to advocate for banking reforms, particularly to reduce interest rates on business loans, which he noted have caused many to lose their property and self-esteem.

On education, Mukiibi commended the government’s efforts but emphasized the need for further action to reduce school dropouts at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. He warned that dropouts often lose hope and pledged to prioritize youth and women’s skilling programs to enhance their productivity.

Mukiibi urged Lubaga North residents to support his efforts to tackle pressing issues, including poor waste management, youth and women’s unemployment, high crime rates driven by jobless youth, poor road conditions, heavy traffic, and inadequate healthcare funding.

He also vowed to attract hospitality investments to the area, leveraging its rich cultural heritage as home to key Buganda Kingdom institutions, Namirembe Cathedral, Lubaga Cathedral, and the historic Kasubi Tombs, which house the remains of former Buganda kings.

Mukiibi argued that Buganda’s tourism potential warrants a special federal status to foster development for both the kingdom and Uganda as a whole.

Mukiibi, representing the Democratic Front, is set to compete against NUP’s Abubaker Kawalya, NRM’s Singh Katongole, Peter Zake of the PFF, and other contenders.
