The Democratic Front (DF) has urged members seeking party endorsement for elective positions to avoid confrontational politics and adhere to the party’s values and principles.
Amid the ongoing submission of expression of interest forms and the nomination process, the party’s Deputy Secretary in charge of Administration, Muzafaru Ssentongo told journalists that DF candidates should focus on presenting their manifestos to voters and refrain from engaging in confrontational politics, insults, or character assassination of other candidates.
Ssentongo stressed that DF candidates must serve as political role models, promoting peace and addressing issues rather than resorting to tactics seen in other political parties.
Moses Nkalubo Bulega, the party’s Vice Chairperson for the Buganda region, reinforced this stance, stating that the DF will not tolerate actions that violate its principles.
He said the party was founded to provide a new approach to politics, focusing on issues rather than insults, abuses, harmful propaganda, or character assassination.
The DF’s electoral commission is currently receiving expressions of interest and nomination forms. Henry Lubowa, the commission’s chairperson, reported that over the past days more than 80 individuals have submitted forms for various positions, ranging from parliamentary to local government seats.
Among those nominated is Happy Nasaasira, a former FDC activist and KCCA councilor for Nakawa, who is seeking DF’s endorsement for the Nakawa West parliamentary seat in the 2026 general election. Speaking to the media after her nomination, Nasaasira cited the lack of a strong voice for Nakawa’s residents as her motivation, criticizing current leaders for prioritizing populist politics over public service.
The commission also received expressions of interest from Peter Kisira for the Iganga Municipality parliamentary seat and WK Muwata for the Luuka North parliamentary seat.
