Anderson Burora has been remanded to Luzira Prison until Friday July 12, 2024.
The former Rubaga RCC who is facing charges of hate speech and disseminating malicious information against the speaker of Parliament, appeared before Magistrate Ronald Kayizi at Buganda Road Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
His defence team led by David Kamukama, refuted the charges, accusing the prosecution of failing to provide clear and specific accusations against their client.
The defence team said the charge sheet was defective.
But the prosecution led by state attorneys Richard Birivumbuka, Joan Keko, and Ivan Kyazze asserted that the charge sheet is neither flawed in content nor form.
They said it has sufficient details to enable the accused to comprehend the charges, which is why he entered a plea without hesitation.
The defence team counteracted that the charge sheet did not provide any link to the accused.
Defence lawyer, Phillip Munabi, making reference to the Electronic Transactions Act, stated that the docket must include an electronic transaction.
He criticised the charge sheet for failing to link the accused directly to the tweets in question, pointing out that neither the complainant nor the accused is definitively connected to the tweets.
The judge adjourned the hearing to Friday, July 12, 2024, and Burora has been remanded till then.
