Kings College Budo, Gayaza High School seek land to build other branches

Namirembe Diocese is looking into a request by Kings College Budo and other Church of Uganda founded schools to allocate them land to build additional campuses to increase enrollment.

The revelation was made by Rt Rev Moses Banja, the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, during his first synod, a meeting of senior leaders of the diocese. The meeting took place on Friday December 10 at Namirembe Cathedral main hall.

According to an audio recording of the meeting obtained by Bbeg Media, Bishop Banja said he had formally received requests from the heads of Budo, Gayaza High School and Mengo Secondary School for land to build other campuses.

The bishop said the diocese will look into the matter urgently. He said the diocese has 20 acres in Ndejje, Namasuba, which it can allocate to Kings College Budo to build a campus.

He said after the 2023 PLE results were released, he personally received 100 requests from parents who wanted their children to study at Budo. But he could not satisfy all of them.

“I wrote to the school [Budo] but I knew this was a big burden to the school headmaster. Those who did not get places support our plan to build another campus,” he told the meeting amid applause.

He said Gayaza High School will be allocated land in Nakawuka while Mengo SS will be allocated 15 acres in Buloba to build a school with a boarding section.

Kings Collge Budo, which opened in 1906, currently has one campus on Naggalabi hill, 14 KM from the city, off the Kampala-Masaka Road.

One of the best performing schools in the country, Budo currently has more than 2,000 students which has put a big strain on its infrastructure.
