Graduates of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) have been encouraged to invest more in clean energy, policy, and research as key pillars for sustainable development.
The call was made by Dr Vincent Fred Senono from the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) during a one-day energy symposium held at MUBS campus in Nakawa.
Dr Senono emphasised the need for institutions such as MUBS to use real data to generate community-based projects that can drive development.
“As MUBS, you should focus on real data that can help the institution to generate community projects which translate into tangible development,” he said.
He noted that UBOS is now using a community-based data collection system to understand how communities can use their own resources for growth.
Held under the theme “Graduates in the Energy Space: Showcasing Contributions to Business, Policy, and Research,” the symposium attracted delegates from several countries.
MUBS deputy principal Dr Rachel Mindra Katoroogo said the institution is prioritising the role of academia in building essential knowledge and skills, with a focus on technology, innovation, and practical business management competencies.
“Our job as an institution is to ensure that we are problem solvers and consultants who can use our knowledge to create a free and sustainable energy space through policy and research,” she said.
Katoroogo added that MUBS is collaborating with institutions such as UBOS to ensure that research and innovation are effectively translated into practice.
She noted that much of the research conducted at MUBS is based on data generated by UBOS, especially statistical figures that inform project design and implementation.
