Daniel Ogong leaves Stanbic Bank after eight years of transforming its brand

After eight remarkable years, Daniel Ogong, the creative force behind Stanbic Bank Uganda’s trusted brand, is stepping down as Head of Brand and Marketing on October 1, 2025. His departure marks the end of an era for the bank, where he turned ideas into campaigns that touched the hearts of Ugandans.

For those who interacted with him, Ogong did not just lead marketing at Stanbic. He reshaped how the bank connected with people. From vibrant campaigns supporting local music and sports to bold strategies that made Stanbic a household name, his work helped make the bank one of Uganda’s most respected financial institutions. Whether it was cheering for Uganda’s athletes or celebrating local artists, Ogong ensured Stanbic’s brand stood for progress and pride.

Under his leadership, Stanbic won numerous awards, proving its place as a leader in Uganda’s financial world. In 2024, Ogong was named Marketing Pioneer of the Year by Evolve Group Africa for his innovative ideas that turned strategies into real results. The year before, his peers at the African Marketing Confederation crowned him Professional of the Year, a testament to his influence across the continent.

“Daniel made Stanbic’s brand about trust, innovation, and caring for our clients,” said Mumba Kalifungwa, the bank’s Chief Executive in a statement.

“His work inspired us all and raised the bar for marketing in Uganda. We wish him well in his next chapter.”

Ogong said working with “this incredible team to tell Stanbic’s story has been a true honour. We showed how a bank can help drive Uganda’s growth, and I’m proud of what we achieved together.”

Beyond the awards and campaigns, Ogong’s colleagues say he was a mentor who brought out the best in everyone. He nurtured young talent, teaching them how to tell stories that connect with everyday Ugandans. His ability to build teams and inspire creativity will be felt at Stanbic for years to come.

His influence stretches beyond the bank. His campaigns, such as Stanbic’s sponsorship of the Uganda Cranes and local music festivals, boosted the bank’s visibility and connected it with communities across the country. His focus on digital marketing also helped Stanbic reach younger audiences, making banking feel more approachable.

As Ogong steps away, Diana Kahunde, the current Brand and Marketing Manager for Personal and Private Banking, will take over as interim head. Will she ably fit in Ogong’s big shoes?
