Veteran journalist Onapito Ekomoloit is dead.
Popularly known as Ona, the former Amuria MP died today morning. He is said to have died from an undisclosed type of cancer.
A family member said he had been admitted in the intensive care unit of a major hospital for the last two days. He was 56 years.
Onapito also served as Press Secretary to the president after he lost in 2001 parliamentary elections.
He later left State House and joined the corporate world serving as Legal and Corporate Affairs Director at Nile Breweries where he spent 17 years. At the time of his death, he had retired to private life.
He had only married his longtime sweetheart in January this year.
He has been eulogized as a humble person and a mentor to many journalists. He was a regular on many talk shows on radio and TV.
