Spire goes into hiding after receiving death threats

Social media activist, Dr Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, has reportedly gone into hiding a day after revealing he had  received threats to his life.

Sources close to him told Bbeg Media that Ssentongo went silent and switched off his phones yesterday.

“We don’t know where he is because we can’t get him on phone. It is unusual,” said the source, an activist.

Fellow activist Agather Atuhaire also posted on X yesterday that she had tried to get in touch with Ssentongo without success.

“…I also haven’t heard from @SpireJim in many hours. It is possible he decided to just lie low but it’s strange he hasn’t first informed us, ” Atuhaire wrote.

Ssentongo has been active on X posting more than five times a day.

His troubles, he said, stem from the #UgandaParliamentExhibition social media campaign which revealed gross mismanagement of billions of taxpayers money by leadership of Parliament.

In a lengthy post on X yesterday, Ssentongo claimed that some people were after his life following his expose on the rot in Parliament.

“Sorting Spire, or any other individual who is demanding for what is truly theirs, is not going to solve the problem. Even if you kill Spire today, it will only multiply Spires and anger. More aggressive Spires will rise to avenge. Even if Spire keeps quiet, it won’t stop the brewing anger, facilitated by your arrogance, greed, abuse of citizens’ good will, extravagance, and beastly indifference. Address the pains of the people instead of seeking to gag and destroy them,” he wrote.
