Kampala International University (KIU) graduated 2,214 students during its colourful 31st graduation ceremony yesterday which coincided with the university’s vibrant silver jubilee celebration.
The event, attended by thousands from across Uganda and beyond, took place at the Western Campus in Ishaka, Bushenyi.
The graduates, joined by their parents, sponsors, and guardians, radiated joy as they marked one of the most memorable milestones in their academic and professional journeys.
Among them was 75-year-old widow Irumba Betty, who made history as KIU’s oldest Master’s degree recipient, earning a Master’s in Public Administration.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammed Ngoma highlighted KIU’s commitment to nurturing graduates who excel academically while embodying values of integrity, creativity, and critical thinking.

He emphasized the university’s role in shaping a generation equipped to tackle global challenges.
Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, chairman of the Board of Trustees, praised the staff-student grant model, which has enabled numerous lecturers and students to secure various grants.
He affirmed KIU’s dedication to expanding this model to further support research and innovation.
Senior presidential advisor Prof Ephraim Kamuntu, who was the chief guest appealed to graduands to be exemplary, respectful, accountable, creative and exercise transparency in whatever they do to be light of communities they live in.
Dr Silver Mugisha, the managing director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation commended KIU board of trustees who established the institution which has not only boasted the economic aspect of the area but also enhanced strategic development of Bushenyi as a whole.
Ambassador John Shama Shaga, Head of Mission at the Nigerian High Commission in Uganda urged the graduates to apply the skills and values acquired during their studies. He noted that they are entering a complex and competitive world that demands resilience and adaptability.
